The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an Apprentice Industrial Electrician – this position will be responsible for assisting with completing electrical assignments. Assignments include programming logic controls and associated devices, working with motors and controls, and working with high voltage and energized equipment which require a high degree of accuracy and precision.

The ideal candidate will have completed or be enrolled in a program toward obtaining the Provincial Industrial Electrician Certificate 442A as a minimum; should hold a valid driver’s license; experience in a food manufacturing facility preferred; highly skilled in electrical maintenance and assembly industry specific experience (food processing); ability to lift fifty (50) pounds when required; good customer service skills to interact with other employees and external contacts; excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work well with others; highly self-motivated with self-initiative and the ability to work without direct supervision.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Starting wage will be dependent upon experience
• Hold and maintain a current Industrial Electrician Apprentice Certificate and valid drivers license
• Work at all times within O.H.S.A. guidelines and regulation
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine size and nature of installations, repairs and maintenance
• Install, replace, and repair electrical controls and panel boxes;
• Test and measure voltage, loads, and ground faults integrity of circuits;
• Troubleshoot and isolate faults on electrical and mechanical systems and devices;
• Conduct preventative maintenance programs;
• Ability to troubleshoot & repair automated production equipment including form & seal vacuum packaging equipment, meat slicers and sauce injectors.
• Examine and adjust equipment and production machinery
• Support the operation of the plant and identify potential areas for concern by doing daily rounds, record findings and using their ability to prioritize work effectively
• Installation and maintenance of electric motors, including rigs and hoists
• Testing and performing preventative inspections and maintenance
• Order parts through the Parts Clerk that are required immediately for a mechanical or electrical repair
• Experience with small electrical repairs
• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve production operations, streamline work and control and reduce costs
• Decrease turnaround times for equipment breakdowns and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless service
• Respond to any of the electrical needs in the building and support offices
• Work with a sense of urgency with regards to production equipment breakdowns
• Work with other members of the maintenance team on any related duties
• Any other duties as assigned

The successful candidate for the position must be able to work our day and afternoon shift Monday to Friday, (with occasional weekend work) on a rotational basis; must demonstrate superior communication skill and electrical/mechanical aptitude; and must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
