Machine Builder
Have you wanted a career in manufacturing but have been worried you don’t have the experience or credentials?
Want to assemble and build unique machines at the forefront of metal clinching and rivet technology?
Like Elon Musk, we at Press Lock Technologies are more interested in your skills and abilities than any piece of paper you might have received. Qualifications are not as important as your desire and determination to see a finished product that you put together and built with your own hands. Possibility of positions leading to a Millwright Apprenticeship for the right candidate (s).
About Press Lock Technologies
We at Press Lock Technologies (PLT) are in the business of joining metal together and joining people to our experienced team who are passionate about making machines with quality and artistry. As a fully Canadian-owned business, it is our goal to bring back the great craftsmanship North American engineering was once known for but within a modern context of green, environmentally-friendly, efficient technologies that are at the cutting edge of innovation in cold metal joining.
Despite being a young, independent company, our designers have a quarter of a century of experience building machines for diverse corporations such as Otis, MP Husky, Rheem, Mueller, and Direct Sign. Prospective employees will be getting in on the ground floor of our enterprise, with all the opportunities for future advancement connected with a rapidly expanding business.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
As an employee in our plant, you will be tasked with building and assembling our state-of-the-art machines based on CAD images or prints. You will need to have a general skillset in the beginning with opportunities for specialization as time goes on. Examples of tasks and skills that would be an asset for you to have a general knowledge of would be the following:
-Mechanical assembly, both small components and large machines
-The ability to interpret CAD images
-Machinery troubleshooting: identifying problems and finding solutions to fix them
-Some machining (manual mill, lathe, grinder, etc.)
-Some minor welding
-Control panel wiring
-Component testing/sourcing
-Taking stock and keeping track of inventory
-Machine design improvement sessions
-Shop process improvements (having knowledge of and implementing “Lean style efficiencies”)
-An understanding that on rare occasions you may need to work extended hours when projects demand it.
Expectations
Moving ahead in our business will require such things as:
-good abilities to organize time between projects and your workspace
-strong attention to detail
-a desire to learn new skills
-an eagerness to push forward rather than coasting and doing the bare minimum
In return, you can expect:
-interesting builds that include some of your input
-opportunities for personal and professional growth
-mentorship in the art of machine-building and manufacturing
Some flexibility in working hours may be necessary at the beginning. Depending on our current projects, you may have some unconventional hours but with the goal of developing a more regular schedule as time goes on and we expand.
Interview Process
Your interview will largely consist of a series of tasks around the workplace to show your competency and knowledge of fundamental concepts necessary for the smooth operation of our plant. As such, your mechanical aptitude rather than your interview abilities are of utmost importance. Some of these tasks will be drawn from the list above.
Finally…
We look forward to having you join our team!
